Migrating ASP.NET Apps: Four way to convert them to SPUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
The establishment of a new SharePoint Portal frequently involves the temporary or permanent migration of an existing ASP.NET application to the new SharePoint environment.  There are at least four different ways that this can be accomplished.  Choosing the correct method is a matter of balancing the amount of effort involved against the resulting functionality and performance.  In this talk we'll demonstrate the following four approaches and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each approach.
 1) Using a Page Viewer web part to display the existing website from inside SharePoint.
 2) Configuring the ASP.NET website to run from a Virtual Directory inside the SharePoint Web Application
 3) Converting the existing ASP.NET web pages and code beside files to run inside a SharePoint web site.
 4) Refactoring the ASP.NET web site as a set of Web Parts in the SharePoint site.

Wicked problems and SharePoint - Rethinking the approachUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
Wicked problems  are a particular class of problems – that often defy traditional thinking, tools, and methods that are useful only for simpler (“tame”) problems. Most projects today have a significant wicked component and SharePoint is especially susceptible to falling victim. SharePoint project failure more often than not a result of problem wickedness. In fact, wicked problems are so commonplace that the chaos and futility that usually attend them are accepted as inevitable. Failing to recognize the “wicked dynamics” in problems, we persist in applying inappropriate methods and tools to them. This session introduces the concept of wicked vs tame problems, why SharePoint projects often fall foul of them, and offers insights into how wickedness can be managed or tamed to make your SharePoint investment a success

SharePartXXL Taxonomy Extension is a business classification and taxonomy tool that allows documents to be grouped cross-site. This tool also eliminates the need for some metadata fields and helps enforce standards across an organisation around classification of documents, while still allowing users an easy and seamless way to file and find documents.
OnePlaceMail allows emails and their attachments to be uploaded from Outlook directly into a SharePoint document library. This tool connects to multiple document libraries and allows you select a content type and enter metadata values at the time of uploading an email.

Once you understand how your particular area of platform interest ‘plays’ with the other pieces of the overall platform stack you can start to make more intelligent and informed decisions about how you can leverage that wider platform stack to achieve your design and requirements goals.

Anonymous access: everything you always wanted to know, but didn't know how to askUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
Enabling Anonymous Access in SharePoint isn’t just a matter of flipping a switch in IIS manager.  Anonymous Access must be enabled in IIS and then configured in SharePoint.  But there are also situations where this basic configuration isn't sufficient.  In this talk we’ll review how to enable and configure anonymous access for SharePoint web sites, lists, and libraries.  Then we'll turn our attention to strategies that can be used overcome specific problems with SharePoint anonymous access.  We'll demonstrate solutions and workarounds for questions like:
 1) How do you require authentication for some items while maintaining anonymous access for the rest?
 2) What content from a personal MySite can be accessed via anonymous access?
 3) How do you enable anonymous responses to a discussion list?
 4) Can BLOGS and Wiki sites be used in an anonymous access site collection?

Collaboration in SharePoint Bringing it all togetherUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
There are so many different capabilities in SharePoint to support collaboration -- how do you bring it all together for a team? Should you use a wiki? Or a document library? Or a custom list? Or a combination thereof? Where do you start, and what do you put together? How do you get coherence in the technology, and align it sensibly with the team and business process.  In this session, Michael Sampson talks about the Seamless Teamwork approach to deciding how to embrace SharePoint to support team collaboration. The Seamless Teamwork approach is the meta-message from his book of the same title, published by Microsoft Press.

The importance of analysis and culture in a SharePoint implementationUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
The numbers and types of tools on offer with a solution like SharePoint does not warrant a fly by the seat of your pants implementation. The temptation to throw myriad tools at your customers is very high. This must be tempered with some proper analysis techniques and a view on how website usage culture might have to change to ensure an accepted implementation.

Information ArchitectureUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
SharePoint is like a huge DIY warehouse with lots of tools and parts including ready made bird houses, tables and chairs. But sometimes when you don't know what you're building, it doesn't make sense to even walk in there, let alone buy something. Just like you have a blueprint or plan for your house, kitchen or bathroom, getting started with SharePoint requires you to have a goal in mind, even if the little details may change later.
This talk will cover experiences I have had  as a designer creating  information models for small and large intranets for SharePoint.
As an interaction designer, which means I look at how systems should behave towards the end-user, I look at how SharePoint behaves and by understanding the needs of both the end-users and the business, I help develop information architecture documents for SharePoint that would have turned out to be great blueprints to configure it with the first time, whether it's for your intranet, document management system or website.
